What to do in Toronto for a 3 day getaway?

Wondering why go to Toronto?

I tell you what led us to spend our holidays in this city!

Before the holidays I actually searched for days for out of country vacation packages that wouldn't cost me $10,000 for 5 days. Note that we are 5. You know what? I found absolutely nothing!

I was a bit discouraged and didn't feel like going to the mountains or to a cabin. I wanted an urban getaway and get out of our usual surroundings.

So after much thought and research, we chose to leave for Toronto.

I decided to share with you the story of our itinerary, day by day. Spring Break is coming, maybe you'll get inspired for your next getaway to Toronto!

Day 1

Departure early in the morning in order to arrive at your destination in the early afternoon. Admittedly, Highway 401 is a necessary evil to get to Toronto, but we won't hide it, it's a long way! When we go away as a family, we have a road trip routine. Getting up very early, the teenagers eat little or nothing before leaving and continue their sleep in the car for 1-2 hours. Then a quick lunch stop and back in the car for another 2 hours before stopping again to stretch and allow the seating to be rotated. Back in the saddle and last stop for dinner before entering the city.

About 6 hours later, we are finally at our destination! It is 2:30 p.m., the temperature is mild, we decide to go for a walk in the Distillery district. wow! it's so charming. Shops, cafes, architecture, history, something to please the whole family! And the little walk is good for sore legs from the car ride!

4 p.m., direction downtown to discover our hotel room. We had chosen to sleep directly in the city center, at the Residence Inn by Marriott. This choice allowed us to leave the car for 3 days and be able to do all our outings on foot. We did not regret! The rooms are spacious and equipped with a kitchenette. A little moment of free relaxation before going out for dinner and going to see the Maple Leafs game.

5:30 p.m. departure for the evening! First stop, La Carnita, a trendy “street style” Mexican restaurant, for tacos and churros at a reasonable price. Really nice restaurant where we could clearly have spent the evening!

Last activity of the day, but not least, heading to Scotia Arena for the Maple Leafs game! To get into the atmosphere of a city, going to a game of a local team is a must!

10:30 p.m., end of the evening! Stop at Pizza Pizza for a post game snack and then rest!

Day2

We had agreed so that everyone could rest and take the opportunity to sleep in, but without missing breakfast, which ends at 10 a.m.!

Game plan for the day! Visit, shop and play the Raptors!

11am departure on foot towards Old Town! A nice walk of about 3 km from downtown to old Toronto. The journey is great and we take the opportunity to admire the architecture that evolves throughout our journey. Stop at St-Lawrence Market, a large public market in operation since 1803! There are all kinds of displays of food from various origins. It is possible to eat there or buy everything you need for a picnic.

Second stop, CF Toronto Eaton Center. Fashionistas will be delighted. There are 3 floors of fashion stores and the glass roof letting in natural light is magnificent! The food court offers several quick meal options for all tastes and budgets. We are not great shopping enthusiasts, but in reality, in our daily life, we rarely have time to stroll in a shopping center, Toronto allowed us to take full advantage of it, before returning to hotel for a relaxing late afternoon reading while sipping coffee.

5 p.m., we're going out for dinner. As we have to go to Scotia Arena for the Raptors game, we chose to go to Jack Astor which is on Front Street. Not the best meal we've had, but the atmosphere was electrifying! The rest was packed with Raptors fans, so that got us in the mood and we had a great time.

7 p.m. off to Scotia Arena! Have you ever attended a professional basketball game? If your answer is no, you should remedy this as soon as possible! This is by far the sport I enjoy watching the most! The music, the points at all times and the idea that the game changed little in a few minutes; it keeps us in suspense from beginning to end and we do not see the time passing! Even when you're placed in section 300 (where we usually are!) you feel the energy of the players.

10:30 p.m. back to our room, where we were waiting for a few small snacks bought during the day and a more than deserved rest! This day will end with more than 20 km of walking in total!

Day 3

Last day to leave. Nothing on the schedule for this day, we had a long lunch. The breakfast buffet included with the price of the room was varied, the dining room on the ground floor, with its abundant windows, was ideal for morning reading accompanied by several coffees.

After a few discussions, we decide to let the teenagers relax and my boyfriend and I go out for a walk in the neighborhood.

Lunch time, outing to Chinatown to eat dumplings. Our choice stops on Mother Dumpling, recommended by the Michelin guide, nothing less! The welcome, the service and the meal lived up to the recommendations. In order to digest our feast, we take advantage of the afternoon to walk according to our desires in the streets adjoining Chinatown. Stop for a good coffee and a little sweetness at the Mofer café, before a short rest period.

6:30 p.m., dinner at Scaddabush to mark our beauty’s birthday. This restaurant was her choice, she loves Italian and I must say that the meal was honest and plentiful. It was a good time with the family and we took the opportunity to discuss our next destinations for the coming year.

Toronto offers many possibilities for activities, we could just as easily have visited the Ripley's Aquarium, climbed the CN Tower, gone out for dinner at 360 The Restaurant at the CN Tower, visited the Temple of fame of Hockey, going to Casa Loma, visiting the Toronto Zoo etc. , but since it was not our first visit and we had already visited these places, we had agreed that our short stay would be essentially made up of rest and good times shared with the family.

On your next vacation, slow down the pace, let yourself be inspired by discoveries and remember: "When nothing is planned, everything is possible!" »
